About Shavasana Yoga

Welcome to Shavasana Yoga

Where the yoga is slow and gentle, restful and restorative, nurturing and healing.

We generally have pretty active lives with many of us being ‘over busy’, stressed out, and exhausted.  Our minds may be cranky or worried, and our bodies stiff and achy.  Instead of a practice that requires more work and effort, what we may need is a practice that will enable us to relax and unwind, safely and comfortably.  Perhaps what we truly need to restore ourselves is to slow down, consciously rest, and simply breathe.

The two therapeutic styles of yoga that inform my practice and teaching are Restorative Yoga and Svaroopa® Yoga.   With correct alignments, adequate propping,  and very little efforting, you allow the pose to ‘do you’.  It is the non-doing, the softening into the pose, with awareness, that brings all the benefits.  With continued practice, layers and layers of tension and fatigue dissipate.  Your body becomes more comfortable to live in and your mind becomes more peaceful, and calm.

Svaroopa® Yoga is practiced in a slow and gentle way, using props as needed for comfort and support. A blend of resting and working poses that are easily and gently held for 1-3 minutes, Savroopa® Yoga releases deep tensions along the entire length of the spine, providing deep relaxation for the body and peace to the mind.

Restorative Yoga is a deeply healing and nurturing style of yoga where well-supported poses are held for 5-15 minutes.    As you rest and sink into the support of the thick, soft blankets, deep tension is released from your muscles, and layers of discomfort and fatigue melt away.

Cultivating Awareness

Ultimately, some of the various practices that yoga encompasses, such as breathing, meditation, and poses, are for the purposes of cultivating awareness, of quieting that noisy chattering voice in your head.  And once all that noise quiets down, what you experience is peace, calm and contentment.
